I have got me E4500 to 3.2Ghz now, using 400FSB * 8.

I'm guessing this is a pretty stupid question, but I know my RAM (2Gb Giel ULL) will do 960Mhz with 5-5-5-15 timings (hopefully lower, not tried yet).

So am I best off leaving my ram at 1:1 with the FBS and having it at 800Mhz 4-4-4-12, or having it at 960Mhz 5-5-5-15 (possibly lower).

I'm guessing the higher will give better performance?

Maybe and maybe not and depends what you use to measure.

Sorry to be so vague but certain programs run/bench quicker with lower ram speed and tighter timings and others prefer higher ram speed with slacker timings.

Try superpi and 3dmark06 with both timings.

So best thing to do is to test with whatever software you use the most be it games, encoding or whatever.

Whichever setting gives you the best speed is the one you want.

However, if you could get your system stable at 7 x 457 and have the memory running at 914 with 5-5-5-15, that will be the quickest. You might even find that your memory will do better than 5-5-5-15 at 914Mhz.

EDIT: If you get 7 x 457 stable then putting your memory on 5:6 and having it run at 1097 at 5-5-5-15 might be the fastest.
