Ram size mixture

I currently have something similar in my DFI X38

2x1GB OCZ Platinum 4-4-4-15 800Mhz
2x2GB Buffalo Firestixx 5-5-5-15 1066Mhz

They are happily running together at 5-5-5-15 860Mhz

What is the exact model of the ram you already have.?

It could work.
My ram is 4 sticks of 1 gig corsair cm2x1024-8500c5d.Ive ordered the new ram so it either will work or worse case is i have spare ram hehe. The only difference is the amount of the ram on the sticks as far as i can tell.

Update new ram arrived at 7.50 am sat hehe. The mixture of ram sizes didn't work so i had to use just the new sticks.I tried it in different slots 1 gig then 2 gig stick ect then 2 gig 2 gig and then both 1 gig sticks and it wouldn't post either way.At Least im back to having 4 gig and i have some spares.

Did you alter any voltages, since the NB might have needed more volts?

Before writing it off completely I would try this if you haven't already.

Place the set of ram in slots 1&3 boot into the BIOS and change the ram to be 800MHz @ 5-5-5-15-2T @ 2.0/2.1V (can't remember what the max volts for the memory are, since when running with full dimms sometimes the modules need a bit more juice). I would then up the NB two or three notches to rule out that.

When trying this put your CPU overclock back to stock (if it's overclocked), since that also may be interfering with it booting, sine when having all the dimms full in limits your maximum overclock in many cases.

Post back with the results :)

It ran fine for 2 years with 4 sticks of the 1 gig ram.One stick died and ocuk dont stock the 1 gig sticks now so i ordered the 2 gig sticks. The new ram is the same speed and timings all that is different is the amount of ram on the sticks.Im fine with 4 gig again my vista does seem smoother now its back with 4 gig.Ill build another rig with the spare ram.I have most things doubled up and was only short of ram and psu so no worries. Thanks for your input much appreciated guys.Ps the pc is all stock clocks.
