RAM slots had it?

hey guys,
My comp started crashing giving memory errors, I replaced ram and it made no difference! so then I changed the slots I had the ram installed in and now it is absolutely fine! I couldnt play a game for more than 10 mins before when it used to crash (buzzing from speakers and just did nothing) now it is fine, whenever I try to instal ram into the 2 slots on the right it freezes up when playing games.
really annoying because the only 2 slots that work now means I cannot have the ram in dual channel mode.
any idea how to fix this? is my MB stuffed? its a gigabyte ga-z68xp-ud3p if that helps.

thanks for any help?

test with just one stick in the white slots one at a time,it will boot into windows if the stick/slot is working fine

then its down to voltages, either dram or cpu/vtt

I inserted ram into all 4 slots and it booted fine, it only ever freezes up when playing games? and happens very soon after launching them.

Any idea? like I said when using the 2 left hand slots it works fine, as soon as I insert ram into the other 2 slots, even if it is just 2 modules. it freezes up, again only when playing games
so will a new MB not necessarily sort it out?
also I have replaced the PSU as I originally thought that was the problem.
I now have a aerocool strike x 800W silver rated psu, and am only running 1 GPU, a 560ti. so surely I have enough power there?

using cpu-z the CPU voltage is fluctuating between 1.044V and 1.200V
not sure how to find dram V ? but dram frequency is between 636 and 680hz on average.

It'll be in the BIOS somewhere, or enable x.m.p for your memory

this may help.

yes thats correct, try that first then you can try other things if it doesnt cure it,its either not enough dram or cpu vtt imo,but you need to add a little and retest inbetween

would it be likely DRAM because it only happens when I run ram in dual channel . ok I will reinstall the other 2 sticks of ram now and play a game and see if it holds up! brb lol

quick question, it says the frequency of the ram is 1333mhz in CMOS , but on the modules themselves it states 1600mhz, can I change this value to 1600mhz in CMOS?

you need to look for x.m.p in the bios and enable it

if it doesnt support it then look for spd system memory multiplier and set it to 1600mhz

might need more dram with 16gb@1600mhz maybe between 1.5-1.6v

omg thanks, got just 8gb in dual channel with the 1.550V and just played half hour of borderlands 2 and it didnt freeze up!
shall I just leave the 1333mhz speed or up it to 1600? will I notice a difference?
can I damage anything having DRAM at 1.6V?

EDIT update,

right I changed spd from auto (1333mhz) to 1600mhz . seems to be stable with the 8GB (2x4) in dual channel.

will add the other 2 modules. shall I up the voltage?

add the two other sticks and stay with 1.55v for now,if unstable try with 1.5750v,if still unstable try with 1.6v

I just added the others and at 1600mhz still. it shut down after 3 seconds of switching on (before bios screen) so I removed it , went into cmos and upped the voltage from 1.550V to 1.600V and it has got to windows fine.
Ok i will go back to cmos and lower the voltage to 1.5750V and try a game out.
thanks for all the help matey

keep me posted, should be able to get it working with 16gb,just needs tweaking
