RAM slots in Thinkpad X1

Quick question in case anyone knows.

According to all reviews and specification sheets, the thinkpad X1 has only one RAM slot.

However, the ThinkVantage software suite from Lenovo insists that my X1 has 4GB RAM installed + 1 remaining slot...

Could anyone confirm what is the case really? It is a 2 days old laptop so I would rather avoid opening it up -which would involve removing the keyboard- for nothing in the end.

One of the really nice things about lenovo is they provide 2 manuals for each laptop. 1 user manual & 1 service manual, both of which can be found on their website.

Screwdriver would probably be quicker than locating and downloading the service manual however.

I guess I will have to open it up to find out for sure, which turns out is not that hard after all.

Just two screws involved according to the service manual; one sort of "alarming" thing is that -according to the service manual- the screws are some type of special nylon something screws which "should only be used once".

I don't know if that means that theoretically I should throw away the old two and buy and use new ones when putting the things back together or I can get away with it and use the existing ones.

Two slots would be very convenient; a 4GB module on top of the existing one costs £18, an 8GB module costs £91...

ps. thinkvantage also insists that maximum RAM supported is 16GB...go figure...

Thank you very much for clarifying this.

Seems that the people who designed the thinkvantage suite should be selling burgers in macdonalds instead....
