RAM speed adjustment

Hi all,

Apologies for my lack of technical knowledge, I am a newbie.

I have just built my first PC, and in the bios I noticed that in DRAM configuration it is reported that the limit is 400mhz. Surely this should say 533mhz as this is the speed of the ram? (DDR2 PC4200, Kingston value) There is no option to change it, unless I am looking in the wrong place, and to be honest I'm not sure where anyway. As far as I know the mobo does support 533.

The only thing on the DRAM config screen that resembles something which might be relevant is Timing Mode, which is set to 'auto' with the option of 'MaxMemClk'... what's that all about?

How can I make sure I am getting the best out of my RAM?

Thanks for your help
Jim

NB: mobo is MSI K9VGM-V, with Athlon64 3200 (AM2)

Unfortunately, no I don't.

The info from the DRAM configuration page in the BIOS goes much like this...

Timing Mode - Auto (option of MaxMemClk)
DQS training control
CKe base power down mode
CKe based power down
Memclock tri-stating
Memory hole remapping
Bottom of UMA DRAM (31:24) - (option to key in HEX number)

If it's any help

Turns out it is the 'Timing Mode' option. I changed it from 'Auto' to 'MaxMemClk' and it then allowed me to select 533mhz!

I didn't want to just randomly start changing things as I'm not confident I know exactly what I'm doing just yet. Although having said that, I could've poked around in the BIOS and just not saved it, thus doing no harm. Hey-ho, live'n'learn'.

Thanks for the help anyway mate

Jim
