Ram Speed vs Performance?

Noob question here...
I started off running my gskill hz @ 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 then knocked it down to 667 @ 3-3-3-10. I get better scores on 3dmark 2001 using the 667 1:1 with FSB but is it faster to run @ 1000mhz?

If your getting better benchmark scores at 667 Mhz is fairly safe to assume it is faster, perhaps because of the performance benefit when running FSB/memory frequency in sync (though I didn't think the boost was that big...).

Is the CPU speed the same for both tests?
