I currently have 16GB (4x4Gb) quad Channel corsair vengeance ram 1600mhz that I am thinking of changing to this.... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-168-CR
Due to upgrading most of my system I will only be able to afford 8GB (2x4GB) dual channel until next month so my question is will this be considered a down grade or upgrade as i will be losing 8gb but improving cas times & MHz etc and would it even benefit my system at all as I will still be using 16gb by the end of next month unless there are any massive benefits of only having 8GB
Thanks in advance

Seems like a complete waste of time and money unless a few flashing LEDs are worth £160 to you.

You either need 16GB or you don't. It depends on what the machine is used for.

In general more memory is better than faster memory, but only if it'll be put to use.

If I was buying memory now I'd be looking for 8GB sticks.

I see what your saying and no the leds mean nothing to me considering I have leds in my case already & no window (yet) I just thought the specs are worth the price which seems to be better than the memory I have now.
If I was to buy 8GB sticks I would end up with 32GB of memory which I won't use as i use my system for gaming I just fancy a change in a few components to be honest

The CPU & mobo i am using is an i5-2500k and asrock z68 extreme 7 gen 3

Which means that there'll be no performance difference between running 4 x 4GB and 2 x 8GB.

On that platform having faster memory is only going to make a very marginal difference. It'll probably only be noticeable by comparing benchmark results.

If you want fast memory get the 4GB Samsung Green sticks and see if they live up to their reputation.

I'd just keep the memory you have and find a more interesting way to spend the money.

That sounds like a smart decision, I should probably put the money into something like water cooling or something :D

That'd be a bit more interesting than buy memory, install memory, enjoy pretty lights, notice no performance difference. :)

There's an entire new world of ways to spend excessive amounts of time and money once you start water cooling. Just think of the happy hours you can spend agonising over what colour the coolant should be. :D

Well that seems to be another problem I'm sick of seeing red LEDs & fans and need a new colour scheme and it doesn't help having a pure black case with all black components so I'm thinking of black and sunburst orange maybe... I really have no idea to be honest but if I was to choose orange at least it will go with my cyborg rat 7 mmo mouse but then again I'm also looking at new cases like the xspc h2... I remind my self of a kid in a sweet shop lol

You can't go wrong with basic black.

As far as I'm concerned the world went to hell in a handcart when people stated cutting case windows. The entire concept of a PC having a colour scheme just leaves me cold.

I guess I'm just getting old. :(

Well currently I don't have a window on my case but if I'm going to water cool I would rather see my money In The case rather than hide it, every time I check ocuk they don't seem to have my case side panel with a window in stock and I don't have a lot of experience modding so wouldn't trust myself performing a window transplant on my case lol

That made me laugh :D
I'm not a plumber either unfortunately so hopefully I can oc my CPU above 4.6ghz without flooding my case too much
