Greetings all..;)

Well i have just received my new ram http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 from Overclockers today.

Problem is my PC says i have 8gig but it's still running at 1333mhz when i thought it should be running at 1600MHz ?

Am i missing something other than the obvious..:) meaning do i have to change something in the bios to get it to run at that speed?

If so can somebody walk me through it please.:D

Thanks..

You need to pop into the BIOS and manually adjust the RAM settings.

Whats your spec?

My PC is..

Alienware Arora R2

W7 64Bit Home Premium.

i5 750 2.66 (not clocked)

2X ATi 5870 XFire

875W PSU

8gig(of the ram i mentioned)

Liquid Cooled.

How do i adjust the ram please..;)

Hmm, being Alienware you might not be able to, Worth a look anyway. Pop in the BIOS and have a look around for memory divider or ratio.

Take some pics of the BIOS if needed to.

I have been to bios and their are many overclocking options but their is also ..

DMI Ratio

4. 266 GT

4. 800 GT

I can choose anyone of them?

Then their is another option that says..

Memory Ratio
6
8
10

I can also choose anyone of these option.;)

You would need to adjust the memory ratio, hopefully the memory speed should be shown in the BIOS, I admit I am not sure which ratio to choose from.

As your at stock you should be ok, does the BIOS show the memory speed anywhere, as it would be a case of highlite the ratio the ram speed will change, but the setting won't take affect until you save and reboot.

Edit: You might need to overclock your CPU, as a Ratio of 10 would in theory run your memory at 1333mhz, to get it running at 1600mhz you need the BCLK to be 160mhz.

My ram speed shows 1333Mhz but this is what it was before i installed this new ram.

The old ram was PC3-10660 (1333 MHz).

I think you need to overclock the cpu, as the memory ratio is a max of 10, you would need around memory RATIO of 12 with your cpu at stock.

Increase the BCLK (Base Clock) to around 160mhz, and also increase the vcore a notch.

Before going straight to 160mhz I would go in small increments like 10mhz, reboot and run Prime 95 in windows to stress test the cpu and monitor temps (don't forget to increase the vcore)

WOW! lol now you are really losing me. Just to let you know i have never over-clocked any PC so VCORE means nothing to me?

Can you just lists the things i need to do in order please,it would be a great help.;)

Please don't take this the wrong way, as you have not done this before you probably be best to read some guides, problem being a Alienware PC I am not sure of the options in the BIOS which can be changed.

I have outlined some info below:

In the BIOS there should be a option to increase the Base Clock, the default is 133mhz. Unfortunately I am not sure on the options names in the BIOS.

The Vcore is the cpu voltage, as you increase the speed the cpu require a little to help keep it stable.

Edit: there should be a optiion in the BIOS to disable the Turbo option, this increases the multiplier of the CPU to also increase the speed.

Bit tech quick guide below, this will give you a rough idea on some of the options in the BIOS.

Okay thanks for help.

My pc has all the option you have listed so ill give it ago. The vcore says 1.76v at the moment but it gose right up to 1.89v i think.
