Hey guys,

Had some RAM problems a while back which led to me binning one stick, so now I'm on 4GB of cheap RAM and I need to grab some more RAM fast before I end up going nuts!

Before I was just using a cheapy budget corsair stick as I didn't know much about RAM overclocking and such, but now I'm looking into it.

I saw the Dominator Platinum range looked quite good, and I was wondering, would 2x8GB at 1600Mhz be a good deal for 150ish that I saw? Would it be able to overclock to 2400Mhz easily? I saw they had 2400Mhz kits but they were 50 quid more and I wondered if the only difference was it was already done for you, and if I'd save money just by doing it manually.

Cheers.

The 1600 corsair will not reach 2400. They bin well.

You want 2400 from Corsair buy 2400.

Hi Tephnos.

Have a look at this video that shows some benchmarks between 2133Mhz, 1866, 1600 and 1333. It might help you decide. Not sure about the difference between 2400 and 2133 but I don't think it would be any critical unless your goal is benchmarking.

Yeah right now I'm on an i5 2500k.

I hear after 2133 you see diminishing returns on intel CPUs. What's your view of this?

Hrm... I'm thinking about 2400 so it would be useful for a future upgrade.

Never thought they binned their chips quite that well though considering I hear about people OCing them high pretty easily.

Corsair bin em well. Trust me ;) I have tested a lot and I can clock memory.

2400 wont run on your current CPU. IMC was junk on Sandy. 2133 is your best option.
