I have a GA-X58A-UD5 motherboard and had 3 Dimms of 2GB installed :

Corsair PC1600 3*2GB DDR 8-8-8-24..

I have just bought myself an additional 3*2 GB dimms the same as above but the timings are 9-9-9-24.. am i ok to mix these and if so should i run the all the RAM at the slower 9-9-9-24 timings for system stability?

Also will the RAM be ok running at the advertised 1600mhz?

Thanks, J.

Mixed dimms are usually fine but motherboard can have a wobbler .... The ram should automaticly drop to the slower speed of the other ram ... I wouldn't recommend running different kits at different specs . Let it all auto set its self . As long as all dimms are 1600mhz the will run at that all beit with the slower CL

X58 is possibly the worst platform you could have mixed modules with. As they're not binned as a kit you may have to help the board find timings that work for all modules, as you've suggested yourself, or worst case you may have to run it at 1333.

VTT voltage may have to be higher than you've been running till now in order to get all modules stable also
