Hey all.

At the moment I have Tuniq tower cooling my CPU.
And I use patriot viper memory modules...
They are quite tall and once I bought them I noticed I that they are too tall to fit under the cooler...as I use only 2 slots I'm fine. But I want to get 2 more modules now...my worry is that I would have to force cooler on them and that could cause some damage to either RAM or MOBO...

Before I start using excessive force, I need to ask if any of you had the same problem ? will it be fine with forcing it over ?
Or only way would be to get another cooler ? and which one then ? budget up to £30 ?

Thanks,
Lukas

Don't force anything, as it's too likely to damage both the RAM and the mobo.

I do have the same problem, and I only use slots 3 & 4 because slot 1 is blocked off by my cooler.

the only thing I would suggest is try selling your existing RAM, and buying just two sticks of a higher capacity? ie. if you now have 2x2GB, instead of buying another 2x2GB try to use 2x4GB instead.

Or you could remove your cooler and physically remove the offending part - cutting a lump off the heatsink wil obviously reduce its effectiveness, but I can't imagine it will actually break anything or stop it from working.

Would that actually solve the problem though, Nelson Santos?

I think OP's problem is not the height of his cooler, but the width - and as this carries a 120mm fan it's still gonna be close. OP take soem measurements before buying this, if that's what you go fo!

thx
unfortunately even if I sell my memory, I still will be loads of ££ short to get 2x4GB ...

and cutting piece of cooler ? not really :(

maybe I should get new cooler ... but then what if it happens again!
am thinking about H50...but bit pricey as welll

hard to find distance from mobo to cooler on cooler spec's ;)

sent email to overclockers looking for advice ;D

but still all advice welcome :)

Im on this forum for ages but still have no access to market so can not try to sell it on here ;)

I reccommend getting Mushkin redline or Radioactive Ram. It's great and will fit under your cooler (hopefully). It's the only ram I could find with out any modifications to fit under a Noctua D14.
