Ram trouble

I bought some ram, 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 2x8GB to be precise. For the whole day things were running perfectly, then this evening around 9pm I started getting random crashes and blue screens, and I could not figure out why. So I decided to test the ram since it only started happening once I installed it, and it turns out one of my ram sticks was completely faulty. With just that one stick of ram inside, my computer would boot but then crash as soon as windows would load.

I understand that you can get faulty parts (and since my friend had a faulty CPU recently I am starting to think its not uncommon) but what I can't understand is why was it working perfectly and 10 hours later decided to not work? I am just wondering if there was something in my computer that maybe triggered it, since usually if a part is faulty it doesn't even post or not work properly at all.

Maybe just the sectors it decides to use. When it gets to a bad sector, that's when the problems happen, and it can't flush or something, so always tries to carry on from that place when you boot. <- Just a guess.
