RAM upgrade for a 2009 MBP

Hi

I have a Mid 2009 MBP that still has stock 2GB RAM.

I am going to upgrade as I have started doing a bit of video editing and it is a bit laggy.

I don't do an awful lot of it, just videos of the wee boy.

Will 4GB be enough, or should I just max it out to 8GB when I am going for it?

There is a big price difference, so I don't really know if it is worth it for all I am doing. But at the same time should I just future proof it with 8GB?

I plan to keep the MBP for at least 5 years if it holds up.

Also, if anyone is selling their 2x2GB kit or anything give me a shout as I would be interested in buying second hand also.

Thanks

J

I moved from 2GB to 4GB with my Nov 2007 Santa Rosa. The 4GB does make a difference, in my case this was compiling GCC which took about 6 hours with a 5400rpm drive.

So it's now a full three years old this month. It still functions perfectly and looks fine. It's speed wise it's starting to show it's age for new title games but nothing else. The battery is very dead, the official replacements are notoriously bad and may just last 6 months.
