hey, i'm getting some new ram for my laptop (asus a6k, turion 64, 512 ram, gf 6200 gfx) and i would like some advice on which ram to buy and what difference it will make.

The only ram i've been able to find has been the value select range (seems to be generic but with different branding). At the mo i'm just going to upgrade from 512 to 1 gb but want to add another gig in a few months (birthday). I'd rather get some decent stuff rather than the cheaper ones but i cant find any!! is there a reason for this? as far as i know my laptop can take any 2700 200pin sodim.

Could anyone give my any specific advice on choosing decent ram for my system and what the general improvements will be after the upgrade.

many thanks folks!!

thanks, i've already e-mailed asus and am waiting for a response so fingers crossed on that one. unless asus tell me otherwise i guess i'm just going to have to settle for the general stuff. i've seen some pretty tasty stuff on a web site -(Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz 200pin SODIMM for notebooks) but like you say unless asus let me know if it works on my laptop it would be risky. corsair value select is the likey candidate.

anyone else have any ideas??
