RAM upgrade question...

Quick bit of advice needed.

My current machine has this installed:

OCZ Vista Upgrade Gold Series 4GB (2 X 2GB) PC2-5400C5 Dual Channel DDR2

and I want to put another 2x2GB in to double the RAM available to me (I'll be going 64bit windows too) however cannot see PC2-5400 DDR2 available on the store. Can I use PC2-6400 or PC2-8500+?

i presume its gone EOL, you could always put a wanted post in the MM maybe somones got some kicking around and you could save a few ££

Yep you can use anything with higher MHz, however the newer RAM wouldn't run at the higher MHz unless your motherboard is clever or you manually overclock the RAM to the higher speed.

For example:

OCZ DDR3 1333MHz can run with Corsair DDR3 1600MHz.

So to clarify, if I bought some PC2-5300C5 it would work with my existing sticks?
