Just upgraded from 512mb to 2Gb and the difference is awesome! I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. STALKER runs properly now (1920 x 1200  ) and windows seems to respond much quicker.

Bit of a pointless thread I suppose, but I did have one question: what's the default voltage for DDR RAM? The chap I bought it from seems confident that it runs at DDR500 speeds, but I'm not sure if my system will let me (no 0.75 mem divider). I was getting a lot of blue screens earlier, even at default until I switched it off and on at the PSU. All seems well now, and I will have a tinker later on to see what mem speeds I can get with my chip at either 2.6 or 2.8.

Thanks for reading :)

lol, sorry. I think it's Corsair value PC3200 DDR. I think I've isolated at least part of the problem, which is due to the HTT being super high.

Right, sorry for the questions:

I now have my rig up at 2.5Ghz, 250Mhz FSB, DDR500. I've got my memory on pretty slack timings (3,4,4,8), but I'm wondering: would it be better to run slower memory speeds but with better timings or vice versa? My chip can do 2.8, and with a 0.83 mem divider I can have the mem running at 232Mhz, but probably with tighter timings. I suppose the best thing to do would be benches, but I'm interested on other people's experiences and opinions.

Cheers!

The extra CPU speed will be more beneficial than extra memory speed.
And as you rightly said, you can try and tighten the memory timings which should compensate for the lost memory speed.
