I am looking to upgrade my ram, i currently have a 2GB (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory sticks installed and a Asus Motherboard P5N-T DELUXE with Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed.

I am looking to buy OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Series ram. My question is can i use the Ballistix ram sticks and the OCZ gold edition ram at the same time and have 6 GB of ram or will i have to remove the Ballistix ram and have 4 GB OCZ Gold Edition ram.

Many thanks Guys :cool::cool:

You can use both but you have to go at the speed/timings of the slowest ram (or possibly slower than that). Dont by ram faster than the current stuff if you plan to use then together - its a waste. Personally I would go capacity over speed, and have both sets in, but it is your choice.

both sets of ram could very well run in duel channel alongside each other fine and without issue. it comes down to the number of banks. i remember you could run 3 sticks of ram in the athlonXP days just fine ;)

and you can run at the higher speeds if you manually overclock so long as the slower ram can take it
