With the ddr3 prices gradually coming down, I'm looking to upgrade from a paltry 3gb of ram to a more reasonable 6gb. I was assuming I'd sell my current kit and replace it with a new set of 3x2gb, however if there was a good deal on the corsair dominator kit am I likely to encounter into any problems if I used all the slots and ran the whole lot - i.e. 3x2 gb + 3x1gb = 9gb?

Also, does anyone have a crystall ball and know whether prices are likely to drop much further?

I may well be wrong here, but I believe it should run fine, provided all 4 modules are the same speed/timing/voltages. It will of course put more stress on the IMC and could well limit your cpu overclock though

Yeah I've heard using all the slots can limit an overclock - do you you in what way? At the moment I'm limited to 3.8ghz by temps but my vcore is only ~1.2875v

Using all 4 slots means the memory controller intergrated into the cpu has to work harder and split the data into 4 modules instead of 2 (very simplified explanation there!)

Basically its harder sending and receiving data from 4 paths than it is from 2, hence why it usually knocks a bit off an overclock. I couldn't say how the C0 920's clock, but if theyre anything at all similar to the D0's, 3.8 should be doable with 4 sticks. Just might need a slight voltage bump for the IMC
