I currently have a single 4GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM, I'm planning on adding another 4GB soon. However, the OcUK website only seems to have the dual channel kit, in either 2 x 2GB or 2 x 4 GB. I'm not sure how well it'd run, having a dual channel and then a single channel.

I'm trying to stick to the same brand RAM, although would it matter which brand it is if it's the same frequency as the current stick?

As long as the voltage, frequency and timings match you shouldn't have any problems.

Even if the timings are slightly out you can always drop the timings of the faster memory to match that of the slower memory - you wouldn't notice any real world difference in speed.

What set are you considering?

First choice would be a single 4GB stick of Crucial Balistix Sport to run in dual channel with my current stick.

It doesn't matter too much, since the case doesn't show off much of the components inside. I just want the 8 GB in total for now, then I can focus on the more expensive upgrades, like an SSD.

The harsh reality is that unless you can find a another exact matching stick second hand the odds are that it will be cheaper to get a set of 8Gb sticks to reach your goal - e.g. these are great value on a this week special - link
