Hi All,

I was hoping someone here would be able to help me with a RAM Memory question I have.

I was looking to upgrade my RAM in my gaming rig, at the moment I have the following: G-Skill DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) 16Gb (4 x 4GB Sticks) (Not overclocked)
I am looking at getting either DDR3-2800 (PC3-22400) or DDR3-2400 (PC3-19200) Not too sure which manufacturer yet.

Would there be much of a noticeable difference if I upgraded? I tend to do a lot of gaming, flight simulators & photoshop.

The rest of the components in my PC are as follows;

Intel i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz (Not overclocked)
ASRock Z77 Extreme6 Motherboard
MSI AMD R9 290 GPU (Not overclocked)
250Gb SSD
16Gb G-Skill DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600)
700w PSU

Hope you can help?!

Keith.

Ivybridge CPUS (what you have) don't have the same quality memory controllers as Haswell/Devils canyon.

So 2800Mhz will be impossible without serious tweaking in the BIOS, 2400Mhz might be doable.

Is your CPU a "K" version?

Hi,

No, it's just the basic version.

Looks like I'll have to wait a while for a whole new build & upgrade the motherboard & RAM. Things are running pretty good as they are at the mo, able to play GTA V at not quite ultra & my FSX setup is going good too.

Just thought I'd get a good performance increase with just changing the RAM.

Guess I like changing & upgrading, so wait I will!

Thanks,

Keith.
