RAM won't boot at stock speed?

Hi folks, sorry if this a noob question.

I recently bought the following components:

GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC)

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail

As I was settling down to overclock the CPU (getting 4.2Ghz @ stock volts so far), I noticed that the RAM was running at 1333MHz instead of 1600MHz.

I changed this to 1600MHz and the PC wouldn't boot. I get lots of beeps and it shuts down.

I flashed the motherboard to the latest BIOS but that didn't help. I tried playing about with the settings in BIOS and if I change the current timings (9-9-9-24) to the rated timings of (11-11-11-28), it boots fine but I just can't get it to run at 1600MHz.

Thanks in advance!

There should be timings and voltage either on the packaging or on a label on the RAM, set it to that.

Also you could try a betaBIOS from Tweaktown forums.

Yeah, I have it set to the packaging/sticker settings and it won't boot.

Even more weirdly, I increased the multiplier to 18 and the RAM runs at 1800 MHz just fine... but not at its stock speed of 1600 MHz :)
