Hi,

Does anyone have experience of these boards, I'm trying to decide which one to get.

Mainly for the better components fitted rather than overclocking, it will be fitted in a Lian Li X1000, but the Asus seems slightly wider than The EVGA.

Other point was SLI I'll be using 2 470's and on the Rampage it looks like they will be almost touching, so heat problems are a thought, so as to PCi layout the EVGA looks more spaced.

Any thoughts advice most welcome.

Yes, that's how asus intend it to be used

For SLI or Crossfire it's slot1 and slot3 each run at 16x

For Trifire or 3way Sli it's slot1, slot2, slot3, and they run in 8x,16x,16x mode

There's no nforce200 chip so it's not possible to run all 3 slots in 16x mode

Regardless, HardOCP have shown even running cards in 8x mode has no impact on performance with current generation GPU's.

Thanks for the information.

One main thing was that if either board offered anything better ? build features etc.

It was really a case of which to buy, from people using them, if they had any problems.

Did you change to Asus to get the Sata3, or just for the sake of a change :)

I like both boards, difficult choice between them, leaning toward the EVGA on looks, bit more plain looking which I prefer.

Well I had a Classified with ZERO issues. The Classified 3 is pretty much the same board plus sata3 and usb3 support

I now have a Rampage III and am having an intermittent issue getting all 12gb ram detected

I changed my case to a Corsair 600T. The northbridge heatsink on the classy blocks you from doing a H70 in push/pull in the rear fan position, and as I wanted to use all 6 memory slots with high profile sinks, it meant I could not use a high end air cooler either. The best option was to get a Rampage III. Plus as I had the Crucial C300 SSD's already it meant I got to take advantage of SATA3 as well.

Glad you mentioned this problem with coolers, I had intended to use a Noctua NH-U12P, but it seems it won't fit the Classifed and if the H70 does not fit either which I was going to add at a later date, it sort of rules out the EVGA board.... umm looks like Asus board again.

Yes, did a bit of seaching on this, it seems lots of coolers don't fit or overhang memory slot.

I've ordered the Rampage and a 3.6 CPU for my new build. Will just be on air cooling for now, I have a fear of water inside a PC ... lol

Many thanks for your help.

I think the Rampage might be a better bet. My memory issues are now solved. Remember not to tighten the H70 too much when you get it :)[/QUOTE]
