Hi guys,

today I started my build. I started by building it on top of the motherboard box, so that I could do some inital testing just with cpu ram and graphics.

First of all let me give you details of what I got plugged in:

Asus Rampage Formula Mobo
Q6600 CPU
Powercolor Radeon HD5850
EDIT: bequiet 750W dark power pro PSU.
And some Corsair ddr2 800 mhz ram.

Initally, I had all the ram 4x 2GB installed, and the little LCD screen that comes with the board was stuck on DET DRAM. I googled it, and it said try removing all memory bars but one. So now I got just one module installed.

When i press the power button on the board the following happens:
1. All the fans come on (cpu+graphics).
2. Screen stays black, system does not POST at all
3. LED screen goes past the cpu checks etc and then halts on "CMOS error".

I have tried the clear CMOS button, taken out the battery (which I also tested), tried both PCIE slots for my graphics card.
I tried some old ddr2 ram that I had in my old machine.

Now I am wondering seeing that I got the motherboard 1 year ago brand new, but havent actually used it, that the BIOS cant take the graphics/ram because it has never been updated??

Also seeing that this is my first ever complete build, could it be that i simply plugged a power cable in wrong?

I am at a complete loss at what to do, so any suggestions would be very welcome.

I got to leave the house now, for 30-60 minutes and am hoping to come back to some answers.

Cheers jerry
