I recently acquired a RIIE board, i7 950 cpu and 12gb (6x2gb) of Ram and got it up and running fine with my 2 GTX 480's and creative X-FI sound card.
At first I dialled up the overclock up to 4.41Ghz and was stunned to see it start booting. However it locked as soon as it got into windows. So I dialled it back to 21x200 with 1.38v set as the Vcore and 1.35 set for the QPI. Temps (under water) are 60C so are ok by my books, and the rigs been folding like a good 'en since.
I noticed after a few days that only 8Gb of the 12gb was showing, so powered down, checked the ram was seated ok.... Bingo 12gb again!
This seemed to happen again on Tuesday, but a quick reboot, and 12gb showed again in the bios and in Windows.
When checking again last night I spotted only 8gb of the 12 were showing so started digging around. Windows reported only 8gb memory now, but CPU-Z showed all 6 slots populated. I rebooted expecting this to find all 12gb again, but this time no. 8gb only.
I started rebooting, powering down and back up - no change - it's dropped and stayed at 8Gb and I couldn't get it back by rebooting.
At first I thought that this must be due to mu overclock (4.2ghz, with memory running on XMS settings) but a dial back to stock gave me no change to the advertised memory.
I started thinking it was a physical problem (bad slot, bent pin on mobo) so started digging through the bios and spotted I was on BIOS 2, and so switched it back from bios2 to bios1... VOILA! Memory all back!
Weird. As a matter of principle, I flashed the bios to version 2101 (was on 1504) and then copied it to the other bios, on successful completion.
The rigs still running after yesterdays change, and showing 12GB (or was when I left for work this morning) - I'll check when I get home if this is still the case.
This looks like it's a BIOS issue, but I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues with one of these boards?
