As the title says ive just built my new bits into my 900d and water cooled it in under a EK supremacy clean (also new) with a D5 and EK top, im liking its performance a lot but since we all like to OC here I want to give it a bash.

Ive read 8PACKS guide and its good but confuses me ive only oced my old gigabyte and z77 before ( I say me but Wazza was the driving force lol)

Id like to clock on the 125 strap as 8 Pack says this yields the best results

so I worked out

Strap 1.25 x 36 = 4.5ghz
1.25 x 35.2 = 4.4ghz
1.25 x 34.4 = 4.3ghz
1.25 x 33.6 = 4.2ghz
1.25 x 32.8 = 4.1ghz
1.25 x 32 = 4.0ghz

Does this look fine to you guys I would ideally like to get 4.5ghz I know this is chip dependant.

So now this is as far as I have got any help would be appreciated :D

No that's not how it works, with the 1.25 strap your basically changing it so the multiplier multiplies 125MHz instead of 100MHz, so:

125MHz x38 = 4750MHz
125MHz x37 = 4625MHz
125MHz x36 = 4500MHz
125MHz x35 = 4375MHz
125MHz x34 = 4250MHz
125MHz x33 = 4125MHz
125MHz x32 = 4000MHz

:)

Hi,

Usually is the strap x bus x multiplier, and your ASUS will work fine.

On the other hand my MSI board is kinda weird :/ (and has also the option for 1.69 strap).

At 125 Bus, 1.25 strap, 39x multi the CPU is clocked at 4875.
At 125 Bus, 1.00 strap, 39x multi the CPU is clocked at 3900!!!!!!
At 100 Bus, 1.00 strap, 48x multi the CPU is clocked at 4800

However at
126 bus, 1.25 strap, 39x multi the CPU is clocked at 4914.
127 bus, 1.25 strap, 39x multi the CPU is clocked at 4953.
128 bus, 1.25 strap, 39x multi the CPU is clocked at 4992.

Also 128 bus, is what I need to run the RAM at 2400, having set it as 1600 on the bios.
(it is 2400 actually).

Hope that helps.
(I have screenshots of my settings for reference at the X79 overclocking quide-thread)
