Rampage IV Extreme Memory Problems

Hi,

I had 4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DIMMS in my new motherboard, and it would only ever see 12GB of RAM

Thinking it was a memory compatibility issue, i purchased 32GB of the Samsung Green RAM

However, if i put the RAM in all 8 slots, i get error code "67" and the system won't post

If i remove RAM from slots B1 and B2, the system will post

It appears this isn't an issue with the RAM. Could the board be faulty? It's brand new

Or two faulty slots if B1 and B2 aren't working?

I'm sure it's possible to overtighten a water block.

Why don't you try loosening the 4 screws a touch just to see what happens?

OK Surveyor, i took your advice and loosed the screws on the waterblock and.....system boots with all DIMMS populated.

However, windows only shows 24GB of RAM suggesting two of them are not being recognised

Progress at least!! Any more ideas?

Slots 3 and 4 showing as empty in CPUID

Like i said, board has been looked after, installed carefully with anti static straps etc

I've been googling, and a few other people with this problem. Apparently the board is rather fussy as to which RAM will work!

Sorry, I was watching The Apprentice.

I don't know how much you loosened the water block but you could try a touch more as long as it still makes decent contact with the CPU.

Are slots 3 and 4 B1 and B2 which were causing the problems before?

I would have thought that if the motherboard was fussy about RAM you would have more general problems rather than just specific slots not seeming to work.

The board should boot with RAM in slots B1 and D1 (the second slot either side of the CPU).

Try it with RAM in those 2 slots only and you can see if B1 is not being recognized full stop or if it's only not being recognised with all the slots filled.

Edit:

I assume you're trying to get it all working at stock settings first and you're not trying to get it all working and overclock it at the same time?

Hi mate

Well finally fixed!

I reseated the CPU block, then added the RAM one DIMM at a time (at stock). It's almost like the RAM had to go in a certain order, or it wouldn't see it

It's now up and running with the full 32GB

Many thanks for your help and advice, i wouldn't have cracked it without you

Cheers
