Hi, I have a weird issue with my R5E if I enable my m.2 slot I loose my fourth gpu??? If I disable the M.2 I can boot pc with 4 Gpu's Present. Is there anyway I can allow all cards to run @ x8 Gen 3 with should provide enough free pci lanes to use my sm951 m.2 drive as well? many thanks and any help would be most appreciated

Odd that enabling the m.2 slot would cause a graphics card to become loose. :p

Or assuming you meant lose, the m.2 slot needs PCIe lanes and typically shares those lanes with one of the slots on the board, meaning you can only use one or the other. Your mobo states the following:

The PCIE_X8_4 slot shares bandwidth with M.2 x 4.
40-LANE CPU: The PCIeX8_4 slot can only be used in x4 mode or lower when used simultaneously with the M.2 connector. If x8 mode is used, the two connectors will be mutually exclusive.
28-LANE CPU: The PCIE_X8_4 slot will be disabled and the M.2 connector will always be enabled.

What brand gfx are you using?

amd 290x x 4 , card doesn't get loose :) lol I lose the 4th card when I enable, got a 5960x so has 40 lanes. so not short pcie lanes

it seems to force first @ x16, 2nd @ X8, 3rd @ x8 & 4th @ x4 I would like all @ x8

so frustrating as the m.2 is so much faster than normal 512gb ssd

That's normal.

While you have a CPU that supports 40 lanes, the mobo doesn't. Therefore when you enable M.2 it steals lanes (x4) from the GPU, meaning the 4th slot on the GPU is disabled.

You will need to decide which hardware you're going to use...

Edit: You aren't allowed 7 lines of text in your sig...

I thought amd cards could run at X4 pcie, so I expected it to run the 4th card at X4. I'm sure I've done it on an old 1155 asus extreme setup, as they only had 16 lanes to play with forcing cards to run at X4 pci-e. Could I put my m.2 in an pcie adapter and place in the fith black pcie slot between gpu's 2 and 3? Cheers Russ

U would think with 40lanes available from cpu u would be able decide the priority of lanes. Why make a board to support m.2 and 4 gpu's if u can't use them together. If u got the cash for 4 gpu's u are gonna be splashing out for a m.2? No? Russ
