Random 3D printing chatter

Pretty sure you can also use 3d printed bearings. They will not last as long and you’ll need to grease them when you assemble them but they work fine.

I didn't think of that! I actually used some printed bearings for something else recently. I might have a play and compare how well the printed ones work

That particular one is great. You need to order some skate bearings (cheap from amazon) but it moves the filament side to side so it fills up the spool evenly. I've done a handful now and it's worked perfectly.
I have loads of skateboard bearings due to all the wind spinners I have been churning out!! I like that particular feature of the rewinder as it's just like a levelwind on a multiplier fishing reel.

Would imagine the main concern would be printing filaments such as ABS which does give off fumes that aren't considered good for you. I'm ot aware of PLA and PETG doing the same but there's probably an argument for anything being bad for you. It's always good to ventilate but I'd research whether the problem is purely with ABS and if you're not going to print that (I've never found the need myself; easier better filaments available) it shouldn't be an issue.
One problem with having it in your bedroom is that if you have a long print, you're not going to be able to sleep. Of course you shouldn't ever be out of sight of a running printer, let alone asleep....and, like all here, I've of course never done that :D

ABS can be smelly and the fumes are at least slightly toxic I believe. PLA and PETG you shouldn't have any problems with that I'm aware of and I've certainly been I a room with one for hours with no noticeably effect. My X1C is behind a partition wall for the noise but the A1 Mini is in the office with me and not enclosed. That's been melting it's way through a spool of PETG for a while. Prior to that I had an Ender 5 Pro running mainly PETG in the office with no enclosure and usually no ventilation (blessed with aircon in the office so usually have the window shut). I'd have said worst case if there is a bit of a smell you can just open the window for a bit.... but I've not had any issues with smell other than with some ASA (similar to ABS) and that wasn't too bad - or in the room with me.

It's here!!

Picking up a table from FB tonight and then got to clean up my office to make a space for it.

I ordered some filament from Elegoo at the same time, that's getting delivered tomorrow :(
I was eyeing one of these but what put me off was how loud that machine is,. No thanks :(

It probably is loud, but luckily I have nothing to compare it against.

Not sure I'd buy one now as Elegoo gave the impression they were going to release a compatible AMS, but looks like that'll only work with v2 of the printer (the information seems to change everyday).

PETG is best but I have used PLA outdoors for a few things and not had any issues. The oldest thing is a bird box about 2 years old and is still absolutely fine although it probably only gets few hours of direct sun a day in summer. If it's going somewhere in full sun then I imagine it might not fare so well

For those with a Bambu P1S, can the AMS be moved when you need to open it? The reason I ask because I probably have room to sit the AMS on the top of my P1S but won't have the room to open the lid fully.

I don't know the P1S specifically but on the X1C the connections are a 6-pin cable and the PTFE tube. You can move it off the top of the printer if you need to as long as you're within the reach of those leads. You might, by the sound of it, want to have a look at the AMS Flipper. There are longer arms if you have (or want) a riser as well.
