Random black screens on booting

My 5 year old AOC is acting a bit strange, i get random black screens on booting (non os related). It appears it does not detect the signal. Once booted , there is nothing wrong with it , but some times i need to boot it 3-4 times to catch the signal.I've tried changing the HDMI cable. So the fault is either in the display port or the monitor. Anything else i can check before pulling the trigger on a new one?

Although you've ruled out the PC I had a similar problem where the PC would appear to boot fine but the display wouldn't pick up the signal. A Bios update sorted the issue for me. Obviously if you're all up to date then it's not going to help but it's something to look at.
