Im having probs with new build for my dad. Board is dfi rdx200. Graphics is a 7600, ram 1gb corsair 4400c2.5, 500w jeantech psu, 146 cpu, western digital drive.

So far i have replaced every part except the hard drive, cpu and board. Have flashed to latest bios as well. Get random bsod's during windows install but then after upping ram volts to 2.85v this was sorted (needs 2.85v at 200mhz and also at 275mhz). Still get bsod's though. Replaced cpu and seemed much better and was able to overclock it to 2.95ghz which was orthos stable for 6hrs on both blend and small. Then when i clicked stop it bsod. Rebooted and tried to do some normal windows use (word etc) and it kept crashing very quickly. Have memtested memory in system and its done over 2000% with no errors. Weird thing is doesnt bsod on stress tests which is when you would expect it unless maybe it was hard drive fault and thats why it occurs when doing general windows activities. Also i found that if you leave it off it could go longer before first bsod (thought it was maybe ram heating up but spose it could be hard drive). Manged to go a while with no bsod's and then used acronis trueimage to flash back to clean install and then kept getting bsod really often after that. Could just be a coincidence though but this is driving me nuts as no idea what it could be. If its stable under load how can it not be at idle + what parts left can be dodgy?

Anyone got any ideas - could a hard drive cause this?

Dad did mention that he occaionally got bsod's on old socket a system and that used same memory sticks and hard drive but it was never very often and i dunno what memory settings were set to so not sure how stable it was to begin with (wasnt overclocked though)

Could be the hard drive or the northbridge on the motherboard.

Sounds like what it could be, if the BSODs are not random enough for ram but still rather unpredictable.

Have you tried looking for bad sectors?

Got a spare drive around that you could try?

No havent got a spare drive which is annoying. Will use a disk checker and see if that turns up anything. Any recomendations on which one? Have always use seagates diagnostic tester in the past on my drives which are all seagate but not sure if that will work with a western digital
