Random "clicking" noise coming from PC..

Oh god I can see my obsession with quiet PCs and noise testing going up a notch. I've already started testing with batteries and DC supplies before each build :D
Isn't that standard procedure before accepting any case fan into use?
And especially for fans bundled with Noctua's heatsinks...

You're not wrong...

My ears are hurting from seeing that likely sound leaking front mesh and heavily restricted rear fan... :p
Haha that white PC is a wonder. It's the quietest thing I ever built! And sadly the watercooled machine with the SP120s is louder at idle. It just hardly ever raises fan speeds from idle.

Apologies for the radio silence, mothers not been too well and we had a visit to the hospital. checked for any random b*****d cables that could be fouling a fan, but nadda. P.S. the click never occurs with general use of the PC, only after a good amount of load i.e. gaming or rendering. I will take a look just to be sure but I believe I have set my fans to be on the lowest RPM settings in the BIOS so I am doubting that under load the fans are spinning any faster than normally. Only fans to do so are the GFX fans and the PSU fan which kicks in under heavier usage.

EDIT: Found the culprit... one of the fans on the Radiator! if I stop the fan spinning the clicking disappears. Let it spin back up again and it starts. However as I type this the clicking noise has stopped... weird no? how it can be fine for general use and in game however about 10 minutes afterwards this single fan decides to start clicking... bearing in the fan going?

I am somewhat relieved that this is the issue as I haven't got an issue replacing a fan, they are cheap enough. I was getting worried that it was a more expensive piece of hardware that I was going to have to RMA.

Very strange, sometimes when you screw them in too tight but if it does it outside the case possibly a bearing issue.

Long time ago I had one which did this when hanging in one orientation so I just swapped it from top to front and no problem - worth seeing if that solves it, sounds like at the point it lowers RPM you hear it, or you just don’t hear it when it’s masked by the higher fan noise...

Water's high heat capacity and slower temperature increase could delay ramp up of fan speed to speeds where that noise appears.
What's the model of that particular fan?

Same as smffy. I've had a few fans with a similar sound before when they were top rad mounted. It has mostly been solved by changing the rpm at idle/load so the noise is not heard. Or just replace the fan itself.
