hey all, so im experiencing random crashing on some random games, like the title says, many of the games i play or have played have worked flawlessly, but there are a select few that mess up completely, a few of those are as follows:

bioshock, bioshock 2, mass effect, mass effect 2, stalker CoP, and the latest is borderlands

the crashes in each have been quite similar, as low as 10 minutes or up to 2 hours (this depends heavily on the settings used, even at lowest i get crashes), only in bioshock 2 was i able to get back to the desktop, other games required a hard reset

ive updated all drivers, i monitor my temps all the time and they go nowhere near the danger area

my system:

os - vista home basic 64 bit
mobo - abit ip35 pro xe
cpu - e7400 running at default
gpu - hd 4890 running at default
ram - 2x2gb dominator 1066
audio - sound blaster audigy
psu - huntkey 700w psu

yeh, so im just wondering if anyone can point out any possible hardware conflicts, or if there is anything distinct making these few games crash like this

only thing standing out to me is the huntkey psu. how old is it?

if you could use a mates for a few days you could rule it out.

few months old, though i know what you are getting at and i repeat what i have said in the original post, random games with random crashes, many games i play are more demanding graphics wise than these games and there was no problem, also i got exactly the same crashes on my previous system, since then everything in my case has changed however

edit: previous sytem was powered by a corsair psu, and ive already seen the thread saying this was a "trusted brand"

edit: it might be unrelated but i get a random buzzing sound coming from somewhere in my case, and also on some games depending on if a menu or something opens i get a dull buzz or no buzz O_o, i cant pinpoint where it originates because of the fan noise and such

edit: im assuming by the sheer lack of responses that no one has a clue whats wrong with my system, or installation, or just dont care :P

last edit: might also be unrelated but the ram chips on my 4890 are completely uncovered, there is a few milimetre gap between every single one, and the heatsink itself, can the chips be overheating after a random period of time?

just a little bump.. my thread seems to be getting ignored as its nearly into page 3 now, a little update about my little crash, after going through a driver and registry clean, i tried again, and right after i zoned out of skag gully i crashed but i WAS able to ctrl-alt-del to desktop, strange right??

The buzz could be the electronics in the power supply. Huntkey overrate their psus massively and are generic crap sorry to say and tend to explode if you try to pull its labeled power. They even tried to bribe a review site not to publish their findings lol.
