Hey,

Lately i've been experiencing a lot of crashes.. while playing some games, BF2 (only PR)... CoD 4, BC2.. and its driving me crazy, its making me have to manually reset the PC, the sound just freezes and all i see is a frozen game on the screen :(

So ive tried reinstalling drivers, from 10.7-10.12.. no luck, changed some 3D settings, still no luck.. i have a feeling it all started when i updated my drivers to 10.10 first crash was in CoD 4, i then used driver sweeper to obviously sweep the drivers and went back to 10.7, but still no luck.

My specs:
ATi HD 5870 (Vapor-x) @ Stock
i7 920 @ 3.2 (tried stock, no luck)
6GB of Patriot Viper @ Stock
850w Corsair PSU..
(Built the PC back in April)

So anyone actually got any ideas on what the problem might be? Lately i can't even play BC2 for more than 20 mins, until it crashes, CoD 4 and BF2 (PR) is just at random times.

Any support would be appreciated! Thanks!

EDIT - I also kept getting, Driver not responding errors, while watching HD videos online..

It looks like the peoblem would be related to oc, bc2 is very demanding game and if your oc is unstable you'll get crashes from time to time, it's the game that i use to test my oc. But in your situation it's a bit confusing. You tried without oc on stock settings and still crashes. When you had your cpu on stock have you been using automatic voltage control in bios, or you chose yours?
other thing is seeing that you gpu drivers crashes, had the same problem, ramm was faulty on one of the cards. In your case i would check if no oc is applied to your gpu while gaming, sometimes msi tools messis everything up (if you're using one). When i changed my gpu from cf4850 to 6970 my windows slowed down and i was getting poor performance with new gpu. I just installed fresh version of windows and all problems were fixed, reinstalling windows is not the most plesant job but when drivers stops working properly and no of the.options helps (like driver sweeper), reinstall might be the quickest cure.

As above, try everything at stock, if no joy you can try underclocking things, if it is a piece of hardware on it's way out this can often help identify it, if no joy then a reinstall of windows is best bet

Thanks for the replies,
@linaaslt, yeah everything was on auto... i cleared the cmos so everything goes back to default.
@95thrifles, I actually tried underclocking my 5870, to 850/1200.. still crashed.

Another thing to add is you both mentioned *formatting*.. the problem all started when i formatted around 3 weeks ago, maybe the drivers somehow got messed up....
Anyone else got any ideas that i could try.. formatting is the last thing i will do :p!

Run a memtest ISO is my suggestion. Always good to rule out memory. It's quick and easy and doesn't require any BIOS settings changes or reinstalls.

Hmm, memtest went fine.. did 3 runs of each stick, all passed.
Decided to format, so far BC2 played around 40 mins.. with no freeze :D
Will bump this thread.. if anything else happens.
