Hey guys, well i got a new system,
q6600 @ 3.4GHZ 9x380
Corsair 6400Cas5 4GB (2x2gb)
sapphire 4870 HD
asus rampage x48 Mobo

Anyway i oc'd the q6600 fine, only crashes at about 2 hours on prime95 blend, and this is fine for me as i mostly game and never use the processesor at max for long this was all perfectly stable for a couple of weeks so i decided to oc the memory and gfx card.
So anyway problem started after changing the timings on the ram from 5-5-5-15 to a nicer 4-4-4-12, ran memory test in prime95 fine and dandy. So i oc'd the gfx card using ati's catalyst overdrive thingy, gpu clock at 780 and memory at 9XX (cant remember exact end figures), ran the diagnostic test that comes with the driver reported all was nice.

So anyway whilst playing black and white 2, a game that is not strenuos for my rig at all the screen freezes on multiple vertical stripes, like this | | | | | each alternate one being of the same colour, and each other being black. With the colours changing during the crash. I thoght it was only the game, so i patched then played thegame for several hours an it was fine, no crashes or lock ups.

Anyway later on in the day the system crashes in the same way again, it crashes whilst im doing lots of windows stuff, (6-7 windows open vuse and cpuid, mostly non taxing stuff).

So i wonder what has caused this? I heard this is possibly a ram thing, but srely it would have failed prime if it was?

Try putting your GPU back to stock or dropping your overclock, I doubt your RAM memory would course this.

I have the same set up apart from i have OCZ ram , i would say it is your ram timings , i have mine on 5 5 5 15 2T with 2.1v going through them and never had any problems ;)

just out of interest have you done a 3DMark06 test, since our rigs are nearly identical i would be interested in what you got , i got a score of 16925 with Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz , Ram @ 1066Mhz , HD4870 @ Core 820Mhz and Ram 1100Mz ;)

if you want any other voltage settings let me know ;)

Had that on my 8800GT, had to rma it and it was found faulty.

Yours is overclocked though so the first step is to put it on stock and hope the problem goes away.

Ok, so i changed the Oc'd values, downclocked the actual GPU and overclocked the memory freq. to see if the card was strugling with slow memory.

mmorpeheus, 3dmak06 test ill have to have a bash at and ill get back to you. My ram is only at 740MHZ out of a possible 800mhz due to the multiplier and the fact its only 6400, and only possible choice is a 1:1 timing, could OC the q6600 more but i seem to have hit a voltage barrier, and i dont wanna shove more than 0.05 V more into this baby than its VID.

My 3d mark score is 15394 with processor at 3.3 Ghz, ram @ 740Mhz and the card at 780Mhz with mem at 1090Mhz
