Random Crashes

Hi guys,

My rig is crashing sporadically. It just powers off suddenly like there's a loss of power. However if you look at the motherboard LEDS, they are still active.

Would this usually point to PSU or Motherboard from experience?

What tests can I perform to narrow down the hardware that's potentially causing this?

Many thanks.

It's not a new build by the way. Have reset the BIOS to defaults, still occuring.

I will check the Event Viewer, good idea.

The PC is roughly 2 years old.

PSU - OCZ 850W
CPU - Q6600 @ stock
Mobo : Abit IP35 Pro

Will run HDD Tests and Prime95 in the meantime..

Just to update.

I checked the RAM and the HDD's they are fine. I cannot check the others as it bombs out before I can do anything, sometimes before it even posts.

How do I check if the motherboard is touching the case? I mean I cannot see behind it and I just used the normal screws provided.

you could try remouting the mobo with longer stantions, when was the last time it was cleaned out? I hate to use this but dust can be a real pain to the performance of a machine either grounding components or causing heat buildups

Mines doing the same. Keeping seeing kernal power event int he event viewer. Going to try a new mobo.

What you using? I've an M4A79XTD mounted in an Antec 300. Rest as per sig

I agree it might well be grounding issues.

I'll rip out the Mobo/CPU/PSU/RAM/GPU and try it outside the case and leave it running to test it.
