Random crashes :(

Been having some odd crashes with my system after installing W10 anniversary update (may be unrelated timing), everything will be going fine then it will freeze and the screens will turn off, if there is sound playing (like a video) then it will continue for a bit and loop (like the machine is trying to recover but just bouncing back to the point of failure). The system is completely unresponsive, numlock does nothing, The only option is to hit the reset button.

Inspecting the event viewer I see multiple 4101 errors at the point things go screwy (Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered) followed by a power warning when I reset.

Drivers are all up to date, I have tried fresh installing W10 to another drive, same issue. Not sure what to troubleshoot next, try a different GPU?

You might need to do a refresh. Something could have gone wrong during the update. Have you tested your RAM for errors?

Ran a memtest last night and it all checked out okay, I doubt it's due to the update (unless anniversary edition is incompatible with 5 year old motherboards) as I fresh installed it onto a spare SSD and that system has the random crashes too.

Guess it could be a hardware fault with the GPU so I'll try another.

Thanks to everyone that helped, after installing 1511 and blocking it from installing 1607 I feel safe in saying the issue is 100% down to a bug/flaw in the 1607 anniversary update.
