Hi All,

Just thought I'd ask on here, but has anybody noticed a massive increase in fireworks going off recently?

I'm about 8 miles East of Manchester city centre in an elevated location, and I reckon I hear and see fireworks probably 5 nights a week - just heard a barrage going off in the direction of Middleton about 5 minutes ago, something I've never noticed before except around Nov. 5th or New Year etc.

Just wondered if it's something local to Greater Manchester or an issue happening everywhere.

I'm not a miser by any means and really like a decent display, but it gets tiresome when it's a random intermittent nuisance when you're trying to get some sleep.

Fully agree on this... and if not fully banned then at least legally limited to specific days in the year and in specifically designated places away from private residences where they can't terrify people and pets. Fireworks were under control once, but started to be heavily abused a couple of decades ago and are now used as yob fuel. They're at best annoying and at worst dangerous.

Agree with this, wouldn't condone an outright ban - fireworks have their place and can be spectacular on the right occasion at an appropriate time and location when displayed professionally, but there is no need at all for random people being able to obtain these year round.
