Random Freeze at desktop

Hi all,

I rebuilt the PC a couple of weeks ago using the DFI Expert. I ran all the usual suspects (benchmarking wise, Prime, super pi 3d01 etc) and found the best stable stock and overclocked settings. Then (once back at stock) reformatted and reinstalled windows, sp2, all updates etc. lastly went through the Tweakguides Guide and used all the recommended progs such as cacheman, bootvis etc to optimise everything, defragged with perfect disk, then lastly done a True Image backup.

Here's the issue, sometimes the PC will freeze for no apparent reason at the desktop. It's random, could be after i've not moved the mouse for a while, once whilst browsing. What's weird is that when Gaming (overclocked, Quake 4) the thing never misses a beat, 4 straight hours at 1600x1200 multiplayer.

I'm guessing it's perhaps it's some service starting issue, any suggestions on how to fault find this issue?

Many Thanks. :)

Many Thanks Ken,

i'll go the services route first and then try another PCI slot as a last resort, I bought this version of the board so that I could run double slot video cards and a PCI card, if I have to change the PCI slot it'll negate the point of buying the board, never easy is it? :D
