Hey guys, rig is the red writing in sig, have been gaming tonight, portal 2, Amnesia and wow, and noticing random game freezes, like gfx crashes, it will unfreeze after i ctrl alt del and go back into game and i can continue, i cant see where this has come from, no heat issues, card is overclocked but has been for ages, could it be driver based? it did it a lot in portal for some reaosn

This is almost certainly a driver issue- update them and see what happens. If that doesn't fix it, there's a chance that your overclock has become unstable- I'd take it down a notch and that should sort it out.

Certainly could be driver related follow above suggestion.

Did you happen to notice your gpu temps? If updating the drivers doesn't help - when it next freezes jump straight to your gpu and cpu temps.

EDIT: or run furmark and monitor temps - if it was GPU heat related that should recreate the problem.

cpu isnt buding above 40C on gaming and its clocked at 4.3 atm, and gpu isnt even pushing 65C with furmark, i'll try driver, is it worth sweeping old ones or just updating

Driver updated. still getting freezes. have dropped overclock down and it has stopped it, but card has been overclocked for ages why wud it start crashing now? :(

If the drivers don't help check your memory timings and voltage are correct in bios. I had this problem a while back and it turned out the bios had set the wrong RAM voltage. It's also worth running memtest to rule out duff RAM.

I cud check ram but its OCCT and Linx stable, didn't think ram affected graphics greatly cause my card is using its dedicated Gddr5?

You need to rule out an unstable clock - and it's always best to troubleshoot a system at stock.

If you haven't done so already, save your current clocked settings in a profile in the BIOS. Then you will be able to load up you current settings, after troubleshooting, in a couple of clicks...

I only suggest it because I had unexplained freezes in games just like yours. My problem turned out to be undervolted RAM. The graphics use the vRAM on the card, but the game engine uses the CPU and system RAM. Unless you are getting a specific error message that narrows the problem down you can't rule anything out.
