random freezes on online gaming

Just wondering if people could help me here as im having some problems with online gameing.

While playing online games i'll randomly freeze for a few seconds so i usually end a bit 10ft further than where i was before the freeze. I'm only guessing its internet related because my games work fine in singleplayer...

Pc specs:- i7 930 2.8ghz @ 3.6ghz, 6gb ram, ati 5970 2gb
Router:- Netgear 834gt with the dgteam firmware. Ive tried different ones and also the official ones. Even tried a thompson router that came with my broadband. Currently connecting at 9600kbps.

Try setting your anti-virus to stop scanning the game example BC2 > AVG > Resident shield > manage exceptions > add path > documents > BFBC2 folder and see what happens.

I dont use avg. I use a program called bullguard that i got free from overclockers when i ordered all my parts. I turn it off during gaming anyway so that shouldnt affect it.

Run http://sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr/ against the server in question and see if you notice any packet loss/latency spikes.

It sounds like you are lagging and if you're serious about online gaming - you might want to sort this out!!! Laggers are often kicked on games as they're mistaken for hackers (aswell as not being very beneficial to team games!)

Try doing a speed test (http://www.speedtest.net/) and find out what your ping is. If your ping is anything over 200, then you have a serious problem with your connection!

This might be due to the distance between you and your exchange or the ISP themselves. As someone's already mentioned - Be is definitely the geek's choice of ISP!

ps. Yes, have a Thompson router (again, with Be) at my parents house and it works like a beauty!

The server i play on i get about 18 - 30 ping, the problem is ill be smooth as a babys bottom then my screen will randomly freeze for a few seconds so if i see the enemy then im usually dead before im back to normal :-P

it can happen every 10 mins or so so its not predictable. Maybe i should try playing some single player and see if i get the freeze there.

I have the same issue, machine specs in sig. All thats running is AVG and some sidebar widgets, I'll do some testing and post back.

Never took much notice it because all i can hear is the fans. Would the router firewall have anything to do with it? Ive changed the cat 5e cable and ill check on a game tomorrow to see if there is any difference as im busy tonight.
