The motherboard in my computer died recently and I have been sent a replacement as it couldn't be repaired. The replacement is exactly the same so I thought I could just use the existing install of Windows I had before the motherboard went.
Everything is working except that Windows will randomly freeze either during startup or at the desktop. If it hasn't crashed by then it is OK but if I was to restart then it might not boot up properly again until after a few tries. Windows repair also finds no fault and doesn't do anything.
I guessing that this is a driver issue but I don't know what the cause is. Disabling the USB controller has helped a bit but it was not the cause it would seem as it still crashes. There are no driver issues in the device manager either and all devices are working with no problems.
The best solution would be a complete reformat and re-install but I'm hoping I can hold that off as a last resort if all else fails as installing everything again will take ages and I didn't make any ghost images of the drive. Is there anything else I can do to try and find the cause or install something to check the drivers currently installed?
The OS is Windows 7. I never installed any external drivers for the motherboard as it seemed Windows had all the necessary ones on install. The only drivers I had to install were for the graphics card, sound card and TV card, all of which seem to be working fine.
