Ok, its been a month since I've replaced my graphics card and I have a problem.

Groups of 4 dots/pixels? buzz around the screen at certain intervals and locations and is becoming a massive issue when using photoshop as it seems to accentuate the current issue. They only move when i hover my mouse over them.

If the image is larger than 1280 pixels wide then please resize, link only or put in spoiler tags. Thank you.

The image above shows the extent of the dots. In this current situation the dots will not be jittering. However, when i scroll, add a new layer or anything of that nature the dots will shift and move. In addition there is a lot of noise in the brushes when i apply them. These dots are actually rendered into my projects!

I cannot continue with my designs until this has been fixed!

Another problem that has arose with this; the windows task bar at the bottom of the screen (I don't know the best way to explain this) It sort of buzzes around/distorts/shifts and when i move my mouse over it, it returns to normal.
This isn't a major issue, just irritating.

PC INFO:

AMD FX-8120
AMD Radeon 7950 running at 1920x1080 up from a Radeon 5770
8GB DDR3
GA-970A-DS3 GIGABYTE Motherboard

  • The GPU is overclocked, but returning to factory voltages has no effect.
  • GPU idles at 36C
  • Dots dont occur when running programs in full screen mode.

I must stress that these problems have only arose since the upgrade of my graphics card. But I don't know if this is the outlying issue.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks

My 7950 behaves poorly in Photoshop - I get black flashing layers now and then, whereas my Nvidia machine at work runs it perfectly. But I've never seen any dots.

Are you using the latest ATi drivers? What's your PSU?

Edit -> Preferences -> Performance -> uncheck the Enable OpenGL Drawing box under GPU settings.

See if that helps :)

Sounds like the card is broken IMO.

RMA it.

(Try a clean reinstall on another disk combined with a BIOS clear to rule out something software/dodgy hardware config).
