Random Locks Where to Start Looking?

Hey guys,

Been having some odd problems with my Rig tonight. Had a few games on Mechwarrior Online and halfway through a round had a lock up and had to do a hard reboot.

When trying to boot up it would power on for a second then shut down with the CPU LED warning light coming on. I left it for 10 min and tried again and the PC booted up OK.

Checked temps and they were around 45 - 50 under load so decided to try another game. The same thing happened after about 30 min of game time. Had to wait until I could boot the PC up again.

Got back into windows and was doing some searches into the problem when it locked up a 3rd time, this time I could reboot but it kept locking up in the window starting screen, I could hear the HDD's just turning off. The only noise was my fans and pump.

How can I check if this is a CPU, HDD or PSU fault? The PSU is fairly new, the CPU is under two years old but the HDD is in all honestly pretty old (one of the first SATA drives).

Any help would be awesome

Dave

your memory !!!

32gb id be looking at dram/vtt or vccio/vccsa voltage(cpu memory controller voltage)

stock is 1.05v id try upping it to around 1.10v-1.15v max safe is 1.2v

Good shout on the Event Viewer! Always forget that.

Its logged it as Kernel Power, which just so happens to be the exact same error I had back in 2012 when my PSU died.

Will try upping the RAM voltage to see if that helps.

Checked the VCCSA voltage and its set at 0.91, I have set it to 0.95. Any higher than this threw up a warning.

It has booted up OK so will see how we get on.

yeah some asus boards have the vccsa locked out and some have vccio locked

adjusting either should help

Depending on the frequency and timings of that RAM you could be looking at needing VCCSA(IMC) and VTT not sure what they are called on Asus boards now, at around 1.096-1.12 to get stable. I'd reccomend staying below 1.2 and shouldn't need that either.

Thanks guys, set it to 1.10 and it has been stable all weekend now.

Any idea why all of a sudden it started locking? I have had it on stock settings for over a year now with no issues.
