I'd like to start by saying that I've spent three days reading MikeHiow's epic thread, with it expanding quicker than I can read it at work, and now the thread has been closed! Seriously! Not Funny!

Now then...

I've a few random Q's about my 2004 '53' Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X:

Should the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel light up?
I only noticed last night driving down a pitch black country lane that they didn't and now it's bugging me.

The heated front screen only works on the passenger side of the windscreen- How can this be fixed?
If it means getting the windscreen replaced then I'm fine with that, but I don't want to bother if it's something more serious.

It's due a service soon and it's done 82,000 miles- What should I have done? Are there any useful extra's to do around this age/mileage?

Cheers,

No, the cruise control buttons don't light up annoyingly :( And yes if only half the QuikClear screen works then I'd say it's knackered! Quite common I believe

This, although you get used to locating the nipples in the dark.

The windscreen is common - its a broken connection at the base

As for the service, rtfm

If I am right the heated front screens use 2 fuses, one for the left side and the other for the right etc. and this what happens when one of them blows. This is how it works on the Focus's so if it is the same on the Mondeo's then I would look in your manual at the fusebox to see identidy the 2 heated front screen fuse's.

I find it annoying that my CC buttons don't light up!

I've got a few strips missing on the windscreen (don't work) but not half a side!

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but is there anything specific to be mindful of when looking at Mk3 Mondeos? Specifically, in this case, a 2001 2.5 Ghia X?

Found one locally for well under a grand (looks in pretty good condition for the age) and was just wondering if there are any reliability horrors waiting to happen with them?

Rear Subframe Bushes (listen for knocking from rear) and rot on the bottoms of the doors (inside edge working its way out usually)

Anything else on these?

How much are the subframe replacements if it goes? Also, would it be easy enough for a competent mechanic to fix at home?
