So my pc was running fine for a year or so with no issues until i recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon hd 7950 3GB to a https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-351-SP as per the following post :
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18668626

My psu is a thermaltake tough power 600w

It has now been one month since the upgrade and all seemed fine at first but now just in the last week the pc has just shut down like 4 times always while playing a heavy intense game.
the restart is just like someone had pulled out the power lead on the pc,, there is no freezing of the computer, not bsods noting at all , just like the power had went of, and once i restart the PC it will run fine ( just the usual boot option to restart windows normally as it was not shut down correctly message at restarting. )
the first time it did it i thought temps or load,, so i loaded up core temp,, gpu temp and the task manager to monitor cpu usage.
cpu and gpu temps were fine same for cpu usage.

to me it deffo sounds like the PSU is right on the limit and the shut downs are caused by the power starvation is there a way to check this ?
and do you think i am right or could it be something else ?
p.s ill run mem test later just to rule that out.

Almost certainly the power supply.

1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £94.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer M 750W "80+ Bronze" Modular Power Supply £89.99

Any of those offer a decent amount of headroom and great internal components.

Think ill get the EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply.
as also been looking in the critical errors in the event viewer when i google them they seemed power related.

can you borrow a psu from somewhere? a decent one obviously.

it probably is the problem but its better to swap parts out to diagnose problems like these.

nope the other pc in the house has a lower grade / wattage psu so this is not an option. :(

Or even try swapping the cards back over.

I would put my money on too much power draw with the new card.

i am pretty sure the psu is fine apart from the fact that to much power is being drawn from it when the GPU demands it when its under load resulting in the failure / pc restart so if i put back in my old 7950 im am pretty sure all would be fine.
if im spending £100 on a new psu would i be better getting the likes of https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-012-EA or stretching that money out to get the likes of a bronze rated 850w or 900w for even better furture proof ?
Edit , just discovered the gold rating is for power consumption, and not build quality ^^ or is that wrong ?

Yeah this is what I mean, I doubt there is a psu failure. Just not having enough power for everything.

In regards to future proofing, I would get the 750 personally. Why spend more than you need. You could get a 900 then when you upgrade you need more.

Just an update for anyone with similar problems as i experienced in the above thread.

My PC is now back to 100% stable again for the last month since replacing the 600w PSU with the new 850w psu linked above.. it seems that the new GFX was just drawing to much power from the 600w psu,, as the psu itself is still fine.
