I noticed recently in some highly demanding games like crysis 3 and battlefield 3 there is a considerable difference in fps, enough to take from playable to 30fps and below. I ran 3dmark 11 in performance mode and saw that there was 500 point difference from before (P9219 to P8740) I know there is some variation but not that much I re-ran the test a few times and got the same. I was wondering what could cause this and if there is a way to tell what has let me down from the 3dmark results.
good one http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6638557
bad one http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6717004

There's one setting in nVidia drivers, regarding to any program you launch - "Energy management", invert it from "adaptive" to "maximum efficiency", but I doubt if it helps to restore 500 points in 3D11 :=] Look into you msconfig, mate and do usual antivir scan.

I am almost certain its not temp related the card hasn't gone above 65 degrees (although I will keep an eye on both CPU and GPU temps) and it isn't vsync tried it on and off. I will try changing it to maximum efficiency. I was thinking about just RMAing the card :s

Right so thanks biuro74 turning it to maximum has increased the score and performance a little (by a little over 100) but it doesn't seem to be the main problem. I did notice that on the score that there is no difference in the combined score or physics score it all comes from a difference in graphics score do you guys know what this could mean? should I consider doing an RMA? or could it have nothing to do with a faulty card?

you would benefit from some 1600 or higher MHz ram,1333mhz might just about cut it with a gtx 680 idk

also idk if your running at stock cpu clocks or overclocked or ram running at default speed ie not setup to run at 1600mhz? ect

Note down the scores you got on the utility programs, then if you can do so, without having to go through too much pain, complete format of the system & start over? Could just be some sort of phantom problem.

If then it is back to the higher level, hurray, if not, then it would seem something has gone wrong with the graphics card at a guess.

Have you OC'd the card at all?

yeah a little its stock core is 1201 and ive put it at 1230 basic, but it also increases its speed automatically so it does get up to 1300.

Ah well then look at all the other avenues I guess. A format would obviously provide you with a blank canvas, and would let you know whether it was a software problem or a hardware one. Seems like it is more software at a guess due to it being fine beforehand.

It is not my area of expertise I am afraid, hopefully someone will be able to help. I suppose going to the software forum on here, and downloading a load of the programs that should clean up the PC a bit might help?

Yeah I will give it ago I did think it doesnt seem to be a hardware thing that tends to be a bit more all or nothing. I may try formating but I will wait a little longer as I was planning on getting a new overclockers CPU Mobo and RAM bundle not sure whether to go sockett 2011 or haswell though not sure which is faster, god hardware can be frustrating.
