Hi guys.
Recently i added a 4890 1gb xt to my system.
Befor doing this i had several crashes with a bad card.
Now heres the thing, my windows used to boot up lightning quick and when i logged in i could open apps right away. Now it lags once logged in for a bout 30secs befor i can open apps.
The other odd thing is the processor rarly went about 15% usage MAX, now speed fan is ocasionaly showing one of the procesors hiting full usage for a few secs and back down and it keeps fluctuating?

Also ram usage is up.

Ive also installed 2 games since, but all that is on my 1tb spin point is windows 7 64, steam with about 10 games, crysis (all three bits), world conflict and hawx.

Any ideas? Have the crashes messed windows up a little? do i need to re install windows/can you use the disk to recover damaged sections?

Could it be to do with the imence heat we've been having?
My system usualy has an average over all heat at about 30c, recently it been at 40c?

Thanks for any help.

Can you look in task manager and see if there any program's which is coursing this spike.
Not sure if it's worth doing a spyware scan.

Hmm, well catalyst takes up 12,000k in total, opera is taking up 150,000k with just three windows!!!
But this is all i can see to be taking up lots.

Edit: i just closed a single window in opera and my cpu usage went for 25% to 15% WTF! lol
Also this would only affect performance while on the pc, what about the whole start up thing :-s

Theres a couple things you could do:

First thing to do is hit start then run and type in msconfig and hit enter. Go to the Startup tab and disable any programs there that you don't need (or atleast don't need to load on turning on the pc)

Another thing you could do is click run and type in services.msc and disable anything there you don't need. Or if you know of a service which is related to software you rarely use set the startup type to manual.

Defrag using a low level defragger

run a chkdsk /b

run sfc /scannow

Listen for HDD thrashing. If you have it it may be a good idea to google for a couple guides on how to rectify the issue.

Thats all I can think of for now. Also check your antivirus software and see when its set to update, you really dont want it trying to update as soon as theres an internet connection available (ie upon boot). Also its a sad fact that as you put more stuff on ur HDD your pc will get slower :(
