Random powers on but doesnt boot.

Built a new FM2 system.

The pc will power on and stay powered but doesnt boot, no monitor out no beeps nothing.
Cant turn the pc off with the front button so have to turn off at the mains.
PC will boot after being switched off at the mains.
It doesn't do it all the time maybe 50/50.
 
PSU/Mobo would be my guess, FM2 platform so unlikely the OP will have an external GPU. Do you have a spare PSU you can test in the system?
 
Only other psu i have is in my main pc, be a right pain to swap it over.

I was thinking PSU, but since that was carried over from the previous system which worked fine im not sure.

AMD A4-6300 3.70GHz
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

PSU is a 2007 Zalman ZM500-HP Heatpipe Cooled 500W Modular Power Supply

Im going to try switching it off from the mains each time, but will that narrow it down to psu or motherboard. Is there a wakestate or something the old psu might not be happy with, a setting in the bios i can change.

It has the latest BIOS, and works perfectly once booted up. Its usually when its been powered down for a while as a reboot will work, and cycling the mains power works its just when its powered on after being left on at the mains.
