In the last couple of days I noticed a whole bunch of my programs have disappeared leaving shortcuts looking like they've been uninstalled. They've completely gone, simply no reference to them in my program files folder.

All these have gone:

3D Mark 11, 06, Vantage
Photoshop Elements 6
Camtasia
Cool Edit Pro 2
Defraggler
dxtory
GIF movie gear
Furmark
MSI Afterburner
Firefox
Origin
Nero Burning ROM
Microsoft Autoroute 2007
Windows Movie Maker (don't care though, I use live movie maker)

Fortunately I only need to reinstall five of those as the rest are not important.
MalwareBytes had gone, had to re-download it.

Everything gone is still listed in control panel/programs and features. Also in programs and features are a whole bunch of other programs that show the same default icon as though they're not installed as well, but they are fortunately still installed.

Also, my whole AMD catalyst control centre had gone.

All I remember doing recently is uninstalling adobe reader, but I can't see that would have done this. Malwarebytes quick scan shows no malware. Spybot brought up one thing called IWinGames which I've cleared. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this?

Happened again today. I reinstalled photoshop, malwarebytes and AMD catalyst control centre yesterday and now they're gone again along with some new ones, kies backup and restore, pinnacle studio, driver sweeper and tridef 3D software. wtf is going on.

All these programs are coming off program files (x86) but don't know if that has any relevance. Just checked the hard drive with HD tune and health is ok. No spybot threats, and about to do security essentials virus check. Any ideas what it might be?

Presumably the responsible party is one of the things that didn't go missing. HijackThis log?

I'd suggest DDS as well but I don't know how to use it...

Yeah, I'll do a hijackthis, been years since I last used that.

Btw, I've discovered something. There IS relevance with C:\Program Files (x86). Every single program deleted was installed to C:\Program Files (x86) and every single program not deleted is on either C:\ Program Files, E drive or F drive.

I've just downloaded malwarebytes again and this time installed to my E drive, so I'm reckoning it should remain intact this time, since my other spyware apps and microsoft security essential are all still there and none of those are installed to C:\Program Files (x86).

So the question is, why would my x86 folder be losing various programs?

I'm currently doing a full scan with malwarebytes on just my C drive, it's been going for 50 minutes and so far it's showing 3 objects detected. I'll report back with whatever they are in a while.

Just did a quick scan with microsoft security essentials and it's just quarantined:

Exploit:Java/Blacole.ES Alert Level: Severe

http://www.microsoft.com/security/p...e=Exploit:Java/Blacole.ES&threatid=2147655025

I wonder if that is causing someone or something to remotely delete stuff but if so, why only that x86 folder.

Windows Live Mail got deleted :(

I found the .eml files so I think I still have them intact to import.

Trouble is, how do I choose not to install live mail to program files x86 since windows essentials installs without asking?
