random shut down in games?

Hi have got the following spec:

Athlon x2 5000+
2gb DDR2 OCZ Ram
x1950 pro PCIe
asus m2n pv-vm motherboard
maxtor sata 320gb
coolermaster Igreen 500w

The problem is that since I've owned it, during gameplay, usually up to 30 mins or sometimes up to an hour my pc will completely crash and my screen goes black.

I've since bought an uprated cooler for my cpu and there are fans blowing in and out cold air but the problems still persist.

I'm always monitoring the temps before and after games
before game:
cpu = 37 degrees
motherboard = 35 degrees
radeon = 43 degrees

after games:
cpu = 42 degrees
motherboard = 40 degrees
radeon = 62 degrees

Am at a crossroads and have no idea which piece of equipment is causing the issue? Am thinking it could it be my motherboard or graphics card?

Please could someone help as I've ran out of ideas as I've put so much thought into it and no luck :(

cheers

lack of voltage to RAM?[/QUOTE

That was something I wondered. in my BIOS which is limited I can either set to AUTO or 1.9v but it reverts to 1.8v straight away anyway :(

i'm running OCZ DDR2 2 gb 800mhz pc6400. I was worried about undervolting at 800mhz speeds so I changed it to 667mhz speeds:
4,4,4,12 1T The problem still happens though.

could undervoltage of RAM cause a sudden shut off in the games?

cheers for your replies

Put it back to stock and see what happens?

It had the same prob when it was stock at DDR2 800mhz speeds but have only recently tried it at 667mhz speeds but no luck. will try auto speeds at 667mhz.

So it's possibly not temperature related then, more likely my crappy mobo?

Jesus, that motherboard sounds bad... :S my P5N32-E goes upto like over 4 volts i think and down to like 1.1v :rolleyes:

yep you're right there :) . it is useless and am planning on getting a high end AM2 mobo in the next few months when I can afford it but am really hoping to have the current mobo stable to play my games until then :(

Hi there, have tried the suggestion above and am running my RAM at stock speed at DDR667 and auto timings instead of the faster timings I set before.

I played FEAR for nearly an hour and then the screen went black yet again and crashed.

Any ideas, can't think of much at all anymore..... :(

I reckon it's either down to motherboard or graphics card that the problems probably lie but am not sure which one, any ideas?

Have a question though, if my Ram were to be undervoltaged, why does it run games fine for 30 mins to 1hour and then freeze. Wouldnt it do it straight away?

or..

Is 62 degrees too hot for the radeon x1950 pro so that's why it's shutting down?

cheers

What drivers are you using for the vid card?..... latest?......

62C is fine for that card to, you could hit 80C on that vid card and still be fine...

yea have tried the drivers that came with the card, then the last ATI drivers and now the latest ones but it's still doing it for some reason. Am really unsure what's causing it

cheers

Are there any errors in the Event Viewer?

Hi yea there are many errors in the event viewer the system erros that are logged as follows:
system error. Event ID: 1003 category 102

then either
Error code 10000050, parameter1 ff7b62fb, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 ba768deb, parameter4 00000000.

or
Error code 100000ea, parameter1 88feb880, parameter2 89b83cd0, parameter3 bace3cbc, parameter4 00000001.

or
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 0000000d, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

whenever it crashes (several occasions). I haven't had the blue screen of death yet though surprisingly. Any ideas what these codes point too?

Ok next thing you need to do is get the minidump file, this can usually give you more specific information as to what is causing those errors.

Someone else will have to tell you how turn it on (if it needs to be turned on) and how to find it, as its not something i've had to do yet, thank god, but usually errors chucked up in the Event Viewer can be narrowed down by the minidump file.

As a shot though, what extra (not kb or mouse) USB devices do you have plugged in?.....try unplugging them.

Also it might be worth running Memtest on your memory.

hmm not sure how to do the minidump thing.

On usb sockets have got nothig other than my mouse plugged in :(

ran memtest yesterday and there didnt seem to be any probs.

I'm thinking maybe to get a new motherboard and if the problem still arises, a new graphics card, then RAM until it works .

the joys of assembling your own pc :S

The event id you posted in the google results i got rarely if ever pointed at a motherboard fault, thats why i asked about other devices etc....

The minidump should help narrow it down, i personally think its something relating to the graphics card... but that doesnt necessarily mean its faulty.

I had problems early on with an x1800xt when i had it, blue screens and errors, but in my case it was down to driver problems.

A friend also has various issues and his was down to memory problems....

Don't give up just yet mate, i've done that before, and it really can become an expensive means of problem solving, especially if its a software issue....

cheers for your help t31os much appreciated. Yeah it's a confusing what's wrong with it. Am wondering if it's something to do with the graphics card too. I'll try and find out the mini dump thing to see what's happening.

The thing that's confusing is why it takes up to an hour to crash instead of straight away, so it would indicate overheating, yet my temperatures seem ok ?
